Troubleshooting HLR LookUp

Fix HLR LookUp issues, such as numbers that return the Unknown status.

Find the issue you see in the table below, then open its article for the full fix. Most Home Location Register (HLR) LookUp issues come from the number format, the number itself, or the carrier, so start with the quick checks.

Check these first

Run these checks before you open an article.

  • Submit numbers in full international format, with the country code and no spaces or extra characters.
  • Run a lookup for a known working number from the same carrier. If it returns a result, the issue is with the original number.
  • Check whether other lookups fail at the same time. If they do, wait a few minutes and try again, since the carrier or network may be temporarily unavailable.
  • Check what each status means in the Results section of Viewing Recent LookUps and Results.
